Homes One-at-a-Time vs. Disaster-Building

Happy Tuesday, Reader!

As I've been watching the news about the devastation in the Carolinas and Southeast United States, I'm hoping this email is finding you safe and secure in your home and not dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Events like this - where people lose their homes and businesses - are heartbreaking.

Sadly, they seem to be happening too often - whether they be natural occurrences like a hurricane or tornado - or - are from the hands of folks who should know better (arsonists and/or careless folks who end up starting massive wildfires).

In my homebuilding career, I'm fortunate that I never had to try to figure out where to start by an area that was decimated by one of these disasters.

But I often wondered....if I had been faced with something like this, where does a Home Builder even start?

I get how to build house-after-house in a community when the ground is just sitting there. But what happens when you're trying to re-build a community from a disaster?

Foundations and partial houses still exist. Debris is everywhere. The emotions are high. People displaced. It's all surreal and hard to fathom.

I took some time last year to interview Amy Christopherson of Christopherson Homes on this very subject. Her company was instrumental in helping Californians through one of the worst wildfires - and - she DID have to figure all of this out.

So - if you've ever wondered how a Home Builder would handle this, I hope you'll take about half an hour out of your day to watch. And - if you like it - leave some love on my little YouTube channel by commenting and/or sharing with others.

What other things do you ever wonder about homebuilding? Let me know by Replying to this email. I promise that I read every one that lands in my inbox!

Have a good week, my friend.
